If you select the “ PDF (Print)” option, on the other hand, after selecting the desired settings for your PDF file and instructing InDesign to proceed with the exporting process, you get… absolutely nothing.
If you select the “ PDF (Interactive)” exporting option, then eventually, after selecting the desired settings for your PDF file, you will get the same dialog with two progress bars that you used to get in InDesign CS4, illustrated above. My concern is primarily with the user interface. I won’t go into the rationale for creating two separate options here. Now, in InDesign CS5, when it comes to importing a publication as a PDF file, you have two options, labelled “ PDF (Interactive)” and “ PDF (Print)”: In my experience, these two progress bars were, generally speaking, rather useless, because InDesign would typically jump from one end to the other with little indication of progress in between.īut at least there was some indication of overall progress, and you could tell when the exporting process was complete.
